The Opportunity
We are looking for a Director, Technical Product Manager. Leads team of Technical Product Managers responsible for the platforms, strategy, implementation, and monitoring of data-driven technology strategies surrounding their respective business and correlated technology domains. Manages complex and highly strategic projects to ensure the design, requirements, and execution are on track for successful delivery. Works closely with business and technology leaders to manage and understand risks, the impacts of changes, and provides input to aid in decision making within an Agile environment. Directs change management, process improvement, technical troubleshooting, and innovation initiatives across departments units.
We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. The highly preferred location for this position is San Antonio, TX. However, it can also be based in Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, Chesapeake, VA or Tampa, FL. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
What you'll do:
- Creates successful stakeholder relationships with other business leaders and IT by developing a clear understanding of business needs, acting as trusted advisor, and ensuring delivery of new solutions is in-line with business needs.
- Manages day to day activities of the Technology Product Management team and actively manages resources to ensure optimal efficiency and effective delivery.
- Assists team in driving product/capability solution sessions and drives cross-functional teams to make key decisions by using their knowledge of the current technology and business constraints.
- Develops team strategies and roadmaps that align with strategic business objectives and ensures team have detailed objective goals.
- Applies line of business expertise in state-of-the-art technology domains to help drive solutions that align with bank strategy.
- Improves the business outcomes of the team by injecting strategic and innovative thinking in business and technology solutions.
- Builds and oversees a team of Technical Product Managers through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching, and support activities.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
- Bachelor’s degree; OR 4+ years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
- 8+ years in a technical product development role, such as technical product manager, software engineer, development manager, business analyst, or architect that includes experience in agile, innovation, problem solving, analytics and system design/ownership.
- 3+ years of direct team lead, or management experience.
- Ability drive design standards and best practices amongst peers in and out of your direct organization.
- Understands the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and supports the development of requirements, documentation, testing, and post-launch validations of solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to identify complex problems and synthesizing information to develop and evaluate options and recommend solutions
- Ability to analyze a legacy system and build a business case to modernize
- Deep knowledge of business domain laws and regulations.
- Ability to recommend solutions and prioritize efforts using data and the business case/CBA developed within your team.
- Ability to work within an agile framework and coach team on project management/agile best practices.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills and demonstrated leadership and ability to influence peers and leaders without formal authority.
What sets you apart:
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience in software development
- Proven experience building platforms, ecosystems, or 0-to-1 products in complex environments
- Demonstrated passion for or experience working with AI/ML technologies and their application in financial services
- Familiarity with operating in highly regulated industries such as banking, insurance, or healthcare
- Strong technical acumen with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams and influence architectural decisions
- Experience with modern product development practices (e.g., APIs, cloud-native platforms, DevSecOps, data platforms)
- US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner
Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $143,320 - $273,930.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
