Bringing pawsitivity to USA
There’s a new teammate helping USAA deliver on its mission — and she happens to have four paws.
Meet Smoky, USAA’s K9 Ambassador and Chief Pawsitivity Officer. Alongside her handler, Chris, Smoky is helping bring employees, members and the military community together while sharing what it means to take care of our own.
As part of USAA’s K9 Ambassador Program, Smoky serves as both a cultural ambassador for employees and a visible extension of USAA’s commitment to the military community.
Mission ready
Before stepping into her role, Smoky and Chris completed three weeks of intensive training in Georgia, including high-stimulus public access training.
Chris brought some unique experience of his own to the partnership. A former Military Working Dog Handler in the Air Force’s Security Forces, he earned a 99.4% on his final assessment — the highest score his trainer had ever seen.
Together, Chris and Smoky continue to train toward full certification while building the partnership that allows them to represent USAA in communities across the country.
Paws on the Road
Smoky’s mission extends well beyond the office.
Through the Paws on the Road Tour, Smoky and Chris are visiting USAA campuses and participating in experiences that bring them closer to employees, members and the military community.
Whether she’s boosting morale with employees, representing USAA at meaningful military-community events or simply creating a moment of connection, Smoky has an important job: helping bring USAA’s purpose and culture to life in a way only she can.

At USAA, taking care of people is at the heart of the mission — and that includes creating a workplace where employees feel connected, supported and part of something bigger.
Smoky’s role is one more way USAA is creating those connections and bringing moments of well-being, joy and community to its people.
Because sometimes living the mission takes expertise and dedication.
